At RENSAT, we specialise in managing T1 and T2 transit declarations for businesses moving goods across the UK-EU border and throughout Europe. We are fully equipped to raise and manage transit declarations from both the UK and France, giving businesses operating on either side of the Channel a single point of contact for their transit documentation needs.

Our service is designed to keep your transit procedures current with evolving regulations, reduce the risk of delays or compliance issues at border points and ensure goods travel under proper customs supervision from departure to discharge.

What Are T1 and T2 Transit Declarations?

T1 Transit Declaration

T1 is used when goods are transported under customs control from a non-EU country including the UK into the EU, or between two non-EU territories.

Under a T1 transit movement, import duties and VAT are suspended while the goods are in transit. They only become payable once the goods reach the destination country and are formally imported.

The T1 is discharged when the destination import declaration is completed and any applicable duties and VAT are paid.

Typical use: UK goods entering the EU via France or another EU member state.

T2 Transit Declaration

T2 applies to goods that are in free circulation within the EU meaning customs duties and VAT have already been paid and are being transported across EU member states or exported via a non-EU customs territory such as the GB to other markets.

The T2 ensures that goods already cleared of customs obligations remain under proper customs control while transiting through non-EU customs territories. A common example is the use of Great Britain as a Landbridge between mainland Europe and Ireland and goods travel through a non-EU country (GB) but retain their EU customs status throughout.

Typical use: EU goods transiting through the GB (Landbridge) enroute to Ireland.

If you are unsure which transit declaration applies to your goods, our team can advise based on your specific route, the origin of the goods and their current customs status. Getting this right from the outset avoids complications at the border and ensures the movement is discharged correctly at the destination office.
